Technical Tips & Information
Miller-Leaman Thompson StrainersThe Thompson series of strainers are patented stainless steel strainers used on a wide variety of industrial applications to remove solid particles from liquid systems. All models of the strainer operate with less than 1 psig of pressure loss at maximum flow when clean. This efficiency provides real energy savings when compared to strainer products that rely on energy consuming devices like spinners and torpedoes to give a comparable cleaning action.
The internal flow patterns are responsible for making the unique family of products so effective. As liquid flows up through the internal riser pipe and deflects off the inner surface of the conical screen, heavy sediments are forced downward, away from the screen, into the large debris reservoir. Unlike traditional basket strainers, wye strainers, or bag filters, the strainer can be flushed while online and in service. Settled debris is easily removed through the debris flush port.
The pressure differential alarm package monitors the inlet and outlet system pressure. When the filter screen becomes dirty, a pressure differential switch-gauge triggers an audible alarm an visual flashing light. The system is also provided with a set of dry contacts for remote monitoring.
The automatic timer flush valve package insures that the particulate that accumulates in the debris reservoir is automatically flushed. Depending on the application, the frequency and duration of flush are programmed to meet your requirements. Water loss is minimized. A manual flush control switch is also provided.
The strainers are offered in sizes 2” though 10” and can handle flow rates up to 2,000 GPM. Several mesh and micron filter options are offered to meet your application requirements. Low maintenance design, low energy loss, and flush while in operation make this a worth while product to consider for process liquid and water filtration applications.
