Technical Tips & Information

Made in America

My age will show in this commentary. I grew up in a time when just about everything sold in our country was made in this country; from steel to electronics to clothing and just about everything we purchased. On the retail level, it is becoming difficult to find most any consumer products which are still manufactured in the USA.

When we started Control Specialties back in 1987, manufacturing was a major employer in Georgia and certainly the home of many good paying jobs with security and good job benefits. One out of five of our largest customers from the mid 90’s is still open, the others are closed. We continue to receive each month notices of plant closings, mergers, down sizing, and consolidation. We can vote in a few ways I know of; at the ballot box and with our wallets.

In the engineered steam, air, water and vacuum business we fortunately still have the option in many cases to source products made in the USA. To vote with our wallets, we are trying to promote products still made in the USA. As an example, Watson McDaniel just moved into a new plant located in Pottstown, PA which is about 25 miles from where I grew up. We are featuring in our monthly newsletter, products either made in the USA or with very high USA content. We will leave the ballot box issues with you personally to ponder but we can sure all vote with our wallets. Have a wonderful 4th of July Holiday and a great summer.
