Technical Tips & Information
A Bit About Control SpecialitiesOn June 1, 1987, Margie and I opened the doors of Control Specialties in Norcross, GA. Our goal was to offer a complete range of products used primarily in steam, compressed air, vacuum, water, and related type systems. Both of us came from Armstrong Machine Works which provided us with a good foundation to start our business.
We quickly learned that if you start a business with the primary objective to make money, you will probably fail. If you operate a business to do the right thing for the customer, you have a good chance to succeed and will make an honest living along the way. With that lesson learned quickly, we have always operated our business to do the right thing for you and your company.
During those first years we developed a group of vendors we came to trust and rely upon to provide products that we were comfortable in offering to our customers to improve their process and solve their problems. We still operate with much of that core vendor group and continue to add products and services as they fit our areas of expertise and experience.
In 1995, we moved into our own 5,000 square foot office warehouse in Gainesville, Georgia. The added space allowed us to add inventory along with our repair shop and, given the growth of Atlanta traffic, was a wise move! The business grew through the 90’s and then like many industries was affected the past few years by the changes in the economy. We are seeing improvements in the economy and business since mid year 2003 and feel confident about the future. We have seen many companies come and go and are more convinced that doing the right thing for you, the customer, is the only way to operate our business.
We started a monthly newsletter five years ago to better communicate information on new products, technical tips, and lots of other information. Our newsletter is our way to stay in touch with you and not intrude on your valuable time. We are always just a phone call away so never hesitate to call when we can be of help.
Margie and I have three grown daughters. Two live in Florida and one lives in San Francisco. We also have two grand children. When she is not working, Margie enjoys caring for and riding her 22 year old Appaloosa horse, Goldie. We also have a cat and dog to keep us straight. For reasons not completely clear to me, I took up motorcycle riding about five years ago and enjoy the quiet moments on the back roads. I have some hobby interests which range from Amateur Radio to RC planes and just sort of gravitate toward mechanical hobbies and interests.
Janice Moody joined us in 1997 and along with Amy Kellogg who joined us in 2000 they represent the voice, heart and soul of our company on a daily basis. Both Amy and Janice handle customer service, receiving and shipping, assist me with repairs, and get involved in virtually all of the administrative functions in our company. We operate our company in a very informal manner and really are here to serve your needs and requirements. Our 11 year old Sheltie, Shaddie, and Amy's 3 year old Dachsunde, Mason, are in charge of security and can tell the difference between a UPS and a Fed-X Truck. Lunch is always a major event and discussed early in the day.
Janice has two children; Alison who is 12 and Jared who is 10. Janice is also very involved with church activities. Amy’s son Zac is 10 years old. She enjoys cooking and also is active with church activities.
Since 1993 we have had a partnering arrangement with Mike Chapman to install boilers and piping projects. Mike has over 30 years experience in boilers and piping systems and is a valuable resource which allows us to do small and midsized turn key projects. Mike and I have been proud to do all our projects on time and on budget along with an attitude of “do the right thing for you the customer.”
We look forward to serving your needs for products and services in your facility for many more years. Thank you for your business. Ed and Margie
