Technical Tips & Information

Boiler Efficiency

Boiler efficiency is a function of the load on the boiler. Combustion efficiency measures how well the boiler is burning fuel and is measured with a stack analyzer. Typical measurements are in the 79-81% range.

Fuel to steam efficiency is the comparison of input to output BTUs and measured with flow meters. Typical measurements are in the 65-80% range.

In-service efficiency compares input to output BTUs over the period of a month and is done with totalized flow measurements. Since this measurement includes start- up, idle time and many other variables; typical measurement ranges are in the 60-80% range. If you are operating your boilers at loads less than 40%, your efficiency will suffer and cost you fuel dollars.
