The Armstrong Flo-Direct® Hot Water Heater utilizes gas as the heating medium. It is designed for applications such as food industry plants and other industries where large amounts of hot water are being used every day. The water heater is made totally of stainless steel to work on all types of water quality. Water temperatures from 130°F - 185°F (54°C - 85°C) are available within 15-20 seconds of demand. A two-pass flow of hot gasses ensures a 99.7% or greater fuel efficiency where virtually all of the fuel energy is transferred to the water. Quick payback of equipment costs can be realized in energy savings as compared to other methods of heating water.

The Armstrong Flo-Direct® Hot Water Heater gives you top performance and efficiency in a direct-fired water heater.
A series of calibrated dispersion nozzles introduces water into the top of the unit. Cold water travels down through a bed of multifaceted stainless steel packing rings that break the water into smaller and smaller droplets.

A burner mounted on the top of the unit fires downward through a center flame tube. Incoming cold water keeps the flame tube cool, and all of the fuel gasses are consumed within this flame tube. The design allows all combustion to take place within a dry, cool environment, and the process produces very low levels of nitrous oxide (NO) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

Heat from the flame enters the lower chamber from the bottom of the flame tube and travels slowly upward through the packing rings. The descending water comes in contact with the bed of packing rings, where heat transfer takes place.

This rain of hot water then falls into the lower chamber and is pumped out to the storage tank. Water temperatures from 130° to 185°F (54° to 85°C) are available within 15 to 20 seconds after the unit starts. Outlet water temperature is set with a valve controlling the incoming water flow. More incoming water results in cooler outlet water temperatures. Less incoming water produces hotter outlet water temperatures. The products of combustion are exhausted at the top of the unit, and they are normally 80˚ to 100˚F (26° to 38°C) in temperature.
